LSMerriment: Scottie Dog Prize Hunt

In Be Calendar Relevant, Be Locally Relevant, Create Community

For the month of December, we’re celebrating “25 Days of LSMerriment.” In other words, we’re sharing 25 great holiday local store marketing ideas to inspire you this season and help drive sales!

Today, we’re sharing this cute and locally relevant idea spotted on the streets of Alexandria, Va.! Each year, during one of the first few weekends in December, the historic city hosts a Scottish Walk to celebrate Scottish heritage, culture, food and drink. The weekend’s events are a kick-off to the holiday season, and this year, the city hid 20 plush scottie dogs throughout the city for residents to find between November 22 and Small Business Saturday!

Each scottie dog entitled the finder to a prize, which may have been a gift certificate to a local boutique, restaurant, or holiday event. What a fun and easy way to get residents (and visitors!) to explore the city and redeem prizes at local businesses. Plus, businesses get extra exposure by being tied to a larger event that draws over 30,000 people to the area.

Could you partner with folks in your neighborhood to set up a prize hunt like this for the holiday season?
