Neighborhood Marketing: Fall Small Business Scavenger Hunt
This past weekend, the Old Town Boutique District in Alexandria, Virginia hosted the 7th Annual Scavenger Hunt. Participants downloaded their “passport” online, and then visited participating shops to have their passports stamped.
Once customers returned their fully-stamped passport, they were entered for a chance to win gift certificates and prizes valued at more than $3,000! Additionally, customers could participate in a social media treasure hunt! By following the Old Town Boutique District and participating boutiques on Instagram, and then posting photos from those boutiques, customers would be eligible to win specific prizes from those boutiques!
This type of event drives traffic to participating stores, allows boutiques to gain social media followers and get free exposure from their customers and creates a sense of community amongst the boutiques! Plus, those that win the gift certificates will have a reason to come in to shop and support local businesses.
What a fun idea! It also coincides perfectly with the arrival of new fall merchandise, back to school shopping, and the change in weather.
Can you make this type of event work in your community?
