Fall into Autumn
Kids are headed back to school, and Labor Day weekend is just a few days away. You know what that means – fall is almost here! How is your small business gearing up for the transition? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Pre-Fall Sale
While it may seem nonsensical to put brand-new merchandise on sale, it can help jumpstart your fall business! Nordstrom’s legendary Anniversary Sale every July allows customers to enjoy savings on the most exciting new fall merchandise before the season starts. Customers can get their hands on discounted merchandise that either rarely goes on sale, or is sold out before the end of the season sale happens. A fun way to create excitement around exclusive products!
Occasional Treats
Can your bakery or specialty goods shop whip up a few back-to-school-themed treats or gift baskets for the teachers, students and parents in your community? Or, you could do football, fall or harvest-themed goodies, if that is more applicable. Themed treats provide a great incentive for your customers to come to you for gifts!
Group Your Fall Merchandise
When I think about fall, I think about a few things: pumpkin pies, piles of orange and red leaves, hot apple cider, big scarves, and warm coats. To make it easy for your customers to find what they are looking for, why not group your fall merchandise together? You can include fall-scented candles, hand creams, fall accessories, and whatever else you think is appropriate! And, don’t forget to post it on social media!
Ease into Fall Menu Items
Depending on where you live, it might not really cool off until late September or October. So, in order to let your customers enjoy the last few weeks of “summer,” make sure you ease into your fall menu items. While folks might not be ready for a hearty winter stew, they might be mentally ready for a pumpkin-flavored coffee or a cast iron apple pie. These are fun, easy, and inexpensive ways to transition your menu to fall.
