Spring2ACTion: Community-Wide Day of Giving

In Create Community, Support Local Charities

Yesterday, the city of Alexandria, Virginia hosted their “biggest day of giving” as a community… Spring2ACTion, a 24-hour giving event to benefit various Alexandria nonprofits. Over 40 local businesses participated, giving their customers the opportunity to donate to the non-profit or school of their choice at checkout.

The campaign successfully raised over $1 million for various charities! Amazing!

Local business participated in a variety of ways, mostly by encouraging their customers to come in (via social media) or hosting local charities at their place of businesses for the day.

The Shoe Hive, a shoe boutique, hosted a “style party” for their customers, complete with refreshments, music and stylists.

The Dog Park, a pet boutique, advertised new arrivals on their Facebook page:

Virtue Feed & Grain, a tavern-style restaurant, hosted a “Good Deed Happy Hour” to support a local charity. Customers could make a donation to the charity, and enjoy light appetizers and drinks for two hours! What a great idea!

While all of these promotions were part of a larger fundraising initiative, they would be easy enough to execute on your own!
