Good LSM: Seasonal Customer Contests

In Be Calendar Relevant, Good-Bad LSM, New Store, Planning

Customer contests are an easy and fun way to interact with your customers. Plus, most people thrive off a little friendly competition – especially when there are fun prizes at stake!

We spotted this seasonal and silly customer contest at Foods of All Nations, a gourmet grocery and deli in Charlottesville, VA.

We like the tie in to the seasonal movie, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”

The card reads:

Guess the weight of the sweet potato to the hundredth of a pound.

Closest guess wins the sweet potato.

Guesses within a pound win a free cup of coffee or a peanut.

All guesses must be entered by the end of the day on the 30th. Winner will get chosen on Halloween!

Rules: 1 guess per person and you can’t touch the potato!

Provide pieces of ballot paper for people to put their name, email, phone and their guess. Offer a place to check “I would like to join your email list.” In addition to engaging with your customers, you can use this as a way to build your email/mailing list if you have people opt-in to your mailings.

Other seasonal ideas could include:

  • Guess the weight of a turkey
  • Guess the number of candy corn, cranberries or nuts in a jar
  • Submit ideas to name a new seasonal treat (ice cream, sandwich, etc.)
  • Guess how many berries are in a pie
  • Guess how many seasonal decorations are hid around the store

As we approach the holiday season, contests like these are a fun way to build your mailing list and create excitement at your location. Why not give it a try?

Have you ever held a customer contest?
